Interesting concept that stretches capitalism and corporate risk hedging

Interesting competitor reaction
Very interesting competitor reaction (in this case multinationals) responding to a low-cost innovator whose solution/model works from an economic standpoint only if current margins and market prices are sustained.

Really pushes multinationals to think of economies of scale and playing the volume game with government subsidy!

Volvo – The Safest Car in the World*
* New US government report shows that fewer people die in a Volvo than in any other car brand in America
Look at the chain of events:
1. You have to buy the car (do people buy less volvos than other cars?– prob yes)
2. You have to drive it (do people who buy volvos drive less and hence have less frequent accidents —- need assessment)
3. You have to crash it (do people who drive volvos crash less?)
4. You have to go to the hospital/be treated and then die (do areas in the US where people drive/crash volvos have better trauma treatment? Do people die less frequently after crashes in volvos?)
5. Do these number translate to worldwide numbers?
All the above have to to be established prior to determining the validity of the statement

Is Zecharia Sitchin right or wrong? Are we really aliens on Earth
Either way its a good story line that makes a good Hollywood movie and deserves further investigation
A compelling argument makes us wonder if we are aliens on this blue planet we call earth? Maybe dinosaurs were the original inhabitants on planet earth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hp0DAwy0-xM
Here are some arguments on why Sitchin is wrong... http://www.sitchiniswrong.com/

Suspended Animation is finally within our grasp
Suspended animation is finally within our grasp (http://www.suspendedinc.com/). Makes time travel of a different kind a reality ...we should be able to exit (suspend) in 2012AD and come back to life(animate) in 2075AD

0% cal, 0% fat, 0% protein, 0% carbs and still 400 times sweeter than sugar
Looks like weight watchers, diabetics and humankind missed commercializing this discovery for centuries. Wonder how & why venture capitalists missed capitalizing on this for so long.

Stock picks IBM, APPLE, ATT
Think Netezza+SPSS+ManyEyes/Cognos along with IBMs capabilities in super computing and storage solutions makes me now see a lot of synergy to position IBM as a full service player in the cloud computing / future of analytics space.
Also separately I forsee a trend in the future of Television.... if the iPhone can grow big enough to be iPad and revolutionize the portable computing industry, can it grow as big as a iTV and revolutionize television from a analog to digital industry and offer more than television programming thanks to the ton of apps.
If you subscribe to the same prophecy - think its worth investing in IBM, APPLE and ATT (and other service providers with optical fiber networks) stock for the long term. ;-)

Future of Data visualization
IBM has been steadily acquiring firms to be a player in the analytics space..SPSS and recently Netezza. Anyone know if IBM has a cohesive strategy around all these acquisitions? Here is what has been brewing in IBM research for quite sometime now http://manyeyes.alphaworks.ibm.com/manyeyes/visualizations . Finally there is tool out there that visualizes data with ease and consolidates some of the widgets. What is interesting about the tool is its free to the public....for your viewing pleasure... http://vimeo.com/14777910 ...the future is here and now! Definitely enhances human experience with analytics especially dashboards!!
